CompactFlash DB is back!
I was VERY happy to notice yesterday that Rob Galbraith is overhauling his CF/SD Performance Database. He’s added results from the latest dSLR cameras from Canon and Nikon, and will be updating some others going forward. Also included (like before) is speed results from card reader to computer. It’s now in a nice sortable table format too! Here’s the link
I was very humbled to see just how much Nikon is kicking Canon’s BUTT in speed writing to card (10.9 MB/s to CF card [14.8 to SD] on the Canon Mark III vs 30.3 MB/s to CF card on the Nikon D3!)….in addition to how the D3/D300 is much better with noise, and overall features/options. Canon for sure needs to get on the ball with their next releases!
No commentsWent to the Moon (in a dream)

Ok so I’m not usually one to write about dreams, but this one last night was just strange so I wanted to post about it! The only thing I can think of that caused me to dream about this was the other day I saw photos of the Soviet Space Shuttle being barged to it’s final resting place in a museum in Germany.
So my uncle Spence was I’m sure the one who discovered this adventure, because it was myself, Spence, and Chad that took this trip. We had to deliver mail, and other various Americanized supplies…and of course we were the ones doing this ya know! HA!
So we board the shuttle, but it was more like a regular plane inside. And the only people that were suited up in space suits were the “professional astronauts”…not the three of us. I don’t remember much of the flight so it must not have been very exciting.
We land on the moon, and it’s like a regular city! We get off the shuttle, and are greeted by some astronaut (who again is all suited up in his space suit.) It’s very snowy and like 10° but all we had on were long sleeves and wind jackets. We went immediately to a car because we were starving. So Spence wanted to drive on the moon, and our “guide” agreed. So this car seemed pretty normal looking outside of the knobby tires. We get inside, and Spence turns the key, the back trunk opens up and these two huge batteries (like oversized “D” cell batteries) raise up out of the trunk. This car was a hybrid that ran on these batteries (which were somehow Hydrogen based) and regular Hydrogen fuel. It was very quiet as I remember Spence tried starting it twice because we couldn’t hear it running. So we’re driving along and see another vehicle (this one was a pickup) and were able to see these batteries (we couldn’t see ours because the trunk lid hid them from inside the car) sticking up. Another goofy thing was that these batteries gave off an “exhaust”.
We’re driving around this city on the moon, and it’s made up of all these big shed like buildings, each with a state name (Kansas, South Dakota, etc) and it turns out that each state that is participating in testing various things on the moon, has their own building. Curiosity got the best of us, and we stopped at one of the sheds to explore around. There were three other students inside, and they too were normal like us, just wearing street clothes…as well as two other astronauts that were all suited up.
They had all sorts of tools in this shed, and Spence being a farmer, had to check them out. They were all rechargeable hand tools, that were using these hydrogen battery packs…and yes they gave off exhaust too! But they were SUPER powerful….like high PSI air tools (sounded like NASCAR air guns!)
They also had photo strobes (of course!) that were really cool! They used some sort of fluorescent looking spiral bulbs, but they were daylight balanced and really bright. They had several bulbs in this one head, pointing all different directions. You just opened up the flap of wherever you wanted the light to come through. They had this really cool material that created barn-doors to focus the light, but what was cool was it kept it’s shape how you moved it, but yet it felt like a fabric (almost like denim). These strobes had to be left off all the time too…you could turn them down in power, but they had to remain powered on at all times…no idea why!
So how’s that for strange?! That was all I remember, it must have gotten cut short by waking up or something. So maybe the moon will be a vacation spot sooner than we think…I mean I’ve been there, and it’s quite the happening place…what are ya’ll waiting for?!
No commentsUpdate WP 2.5: Done
WOW…thanks to my webhost, Dreamhost and their “One-Click” upgrade, my updating of WordPress took all of 45 seconds, with NO problems that I can see so far! I thought for sure I’d be fixing all the custom things I’ve done to my theme, fixing things with my .css files, etc….but everything is perfect!
THANK YOU DREAMHOST & WORDPRESS!
No commentsWacky: Crash-Test-Riders
Ok, here’s a wacky one for today! A Taiwanese inventor has come up with a tandem bicycle where the riders can face each other, as opposed to the one in back staring at the back of the front ones head/back! The inventor says this: “Face-to-face is suitable for a parent and child, or dating couples, while the back-to-back mode gives both riders a good view, and the one at the back can have both hands free to shoot pictures or eat snacks.” I’m sorry, but any baby stuck on a bike facing backwards will probably never want to ride a bike when they are old enough….and I’m thinking if you’re on a date and you have them sit backwards, that’ll probably be the last date….and any pictures being taken on a moving bike are going to be ‘interesting’ at best! Oh, and eating while riding bike…isn’t that counter productivity at it’s finest?!
Don’t quit your day job Mr. Inventor, or focus your marketing on parade goers and circus acts!
No commentsRock, Chalk, CHAMPION JAYHAWKS!
WOW, what an awesome game! I had to turn the rally cap around, then the first bucket to take the lead in OT I turned it back around, thankfully for the last time!
9 points down with 2 minutes left….3 points down with 10 seconds left….unbelievable finish to a great March to the Championship!
Congratulations Kansas on National Championship #5!
No commentsSomethings Fishy
Here in Maryland, we’re on the Eastern Shore in St. Michaels. It’s rainy and chilly, but it just goes with the boats, crabs, and marine atire. St. Michaels is along the Chesapeake and is known as “The Town that Fooled the British” because the settlers hung lanterns all in the trees outside of town and shut off all the lights in town….and all but one cannonball hit in those trees. We are going to visit “The Cannonball House” tomorrow where one stray cannonball hit in town.
We went to the Bistro last night in celebration of Grandma Jane’s 90th Birthday! She is the most wonderful lady you could meet…always so happy and fun to be around. We are so glad to be able to spend time with her. VP Dick Cheney is at his home here in town, and he and his wife (and entourage of secret service guys and vehicles had the place surrounded) were eating there also at the same time.
The wireless connection is really spotty and weak here so I haven’t been able to do much with the laptop. Will catch up on Tuesday!
Go KANSAS….that schooling of NC was the greatest!!!
Congrats to #99 Carl Edwards for winning the Texas race today.
