1:1000 Photo Group – Theme: 3-Sided
I had chosen this weeks theme, “3-Sided”, as I thought it would be a good challenge. I also wanted to see how everyone else would interpret the theme themselves, so it should be fun seeing what everyone came up with.
I thought I would be shooting triangles the whole time, but it turned out to be triangles and 3-dimensional objects. Here’s my 5 images for this theme:
Please leave feedback about the images, and then visit the other group members and do the same. If you’d like more information about the group, or would like to join in on the fun, Ed has the info here. I’ll be posting links (below) to the other members photos as they submit them to their blogs…

Hey there Mr. Tyson,
This was a challenging theme. I really had to wrack my brain to come up with the three sides.
I really like the simplicity of the lone die (is it die or dice for just one?) and the fact that you deliberately placed the one two three on the face of each side is a nice touch..good attention to detail.
Of course who can say anything bad about candy? I did a similar image like this for my color project in class a while back and it’s great for showcasing brilliant color. The only thing I would say is maybe see what would happen if you didn’t use a flash. The glare off the sparkle eggs is somewhat distracting. Great job though..can I have some now?
I love the color contrast in your speaker phone shot. My eye is drawn right to the center of the image and the lines are very complimentary to the blue.
I like the idea of using the little dual mirrors. This is a creative way to showcase the three sides of the die (dice). And the DOF is really nice.
And who doesn’t like a happy doggie. Mabel looks like she could really keep you hopping! Good job on the post prod. Maybe next time you could balance a little meaty bone on top of her head like http://www.Dooce.com does. HA HA HA!
Great work here. Isn’t this fun?
Wait, here’s a better link to Dooce, http://www.dooce.com/daily-chuck/2008/03/12/whos-good-boy
Thanks CJ! The theme was much more difficult, yes…especially for thinking about something creative.
The lone die is my favorite too, that rule of simple contrast is huge!
I agree with the glare spots on the eggs now that you point it out, thanks for “spotting” that one for me! I wasn’t using flash, it was just the sun light pouring in the windows that day…I don’t think it’s been back since that day either! HA!
The mirrors was difficult. I took several. Some with the reflection 3 ways, tried different DOF, but that is the biggest challenge, the DOF on each reflection is quite a bit, so deciding on that was most difficult.
Mabel is our friends dog, and yes she is pretty “busy!” I wasn’t real happy with the perspective on those three, but honestly my original idea of 3 sides of a cube didn’t work, and just doing three in a row wasn’t too exciting to me. Now Dooce with the bones is just cruel unusual punishment….but I do love her idea about putting “You Suck” in text! HA! Thanks for sharring!
It is great fun, although I waited until the last day to get half my images, which I told myself I wouldn’t do! Your theme for the next set will be another challenge…but I’m up for it! Hopefully we’ll have some more friends of mine be joining us soon.
Thanks for all the feedback, much appreciated!
Good job on the photos and use of the theme. The dice photo is nice but seems a little stange with the 1,2,3.
But the black looks good. It would have been cool to have a mirror as a background to this on so you could see the back side. But keep the reflection in the mirror all black. Might have to try and one soon.
The candy photo is nice with all the color and sparkles in it. I am sure it is only me but my eye is drawn to the yellow M&M right smack in the center of photo. Not sure if that was planned or not.
Good contrast on the phone images. Like the dof as well on the edges.
Nice use of the mirrors on the next one.
What kind of dog is that Tyson? She looks like a handful for sure. I wondered who would make the first post collage submission.
Good job all around!
Delicious candy shot!
